Day +7

Photo of the Day
KippEUR has a strange family, here is his cousin Kippiere sitting in a plate of noodles, the noodle poodle...Lily got a photo!

I can't believe it is seven days since Jesses's transplant! Its amazing how time flies when one have no choice but to enjoy oneself! Really it is very strange here, it is almost three weeks and it really has gone quickly. Soon Lily will be going back to Glasgow and we will have to work out a whole new regime. At the moment it feels quite easy because we are so focused on Jesse. Today was much the same, he really has eaten nothing and drank 20 ml of squash but has held down the feeds through his PEG. He was very sick (both ends) at 5.30am but since then has been fine. As ever he was in good spirits. He enjoyed his lesson (based entirely on dogs) and lots of schools TV, plus vimigo (his vitual pet dog Toby) and we finished another Famous Five.

Derek didn't visit today as he feels a little chesty, I think he is probably fine but as Jesse's counts are so low we didnt want to risk it. I saw Bernie this afternoon while Jesse was having his lesson. Thank you for your comments, I haven't read them to Jesse as he is very "flat" at the moment and has little interest in anything. Keep them coming though as I am saving them up for when he feels a little stronger which I hope will be very soon.

Jesse's counts are still dropping. His platelets are now down to 27, if they go as low as 10 he will have a platelet transfusion as he will be at risk of serious bleeding. Again this is all to be expected, they are aiming to kill all his marrow. On the ward you hear of all sorts of complications; line infections, as well as viral, fungal and bacterial infections. One 8 months old baby girl has been in for 11 weeks, she has CMV (cytomegolovirus). She was CMV positive but her donor was CMV negative so now her new marrow doesn't know how to fight the infection already inside her body. She will have to be in for at least another 2 weeks even though her counts are really good. Her Mum looks very tired. The different possible complications are mind boggling! So please keep those positive thoughts coming, and anything you want to say. Leo, I'll talk to Jess about Pooch asap. I snuk out tonight (with Jesse's blessing) to have a take away curry with Derek at the house. Boy, was it good! Much, much better than any curry in Brighton in nearly three years! I'm very tired so I'll sign off for the night sending you all our love,
C & D

Hi Jesse,

We are reading about you every day and enjoying the pictures too. We are all excited about you getting better and better.

We had lots of snow here yesterday! Lots of mud on the field too - it was a real mess.

Love and best wishes from Katie Taylor and all of Swans class

Very strange cousin indeed, If Kippiere was much smaller he could get eaten by mistake - It is the French that eat frogs legs and snails after all - eeeek!!!

Did a tiny bit of snorkelling yesterday and saw some lovely blue fish as well as lots of Bannerfish, which have grey and white stripes. They wouldn't keep still long enuf for me to ask them if the had seen Kipper in the night.

They have some incrediblebirds here - so though the following an approriate joke:

Q: Why do hummingbirds hum ?

A: Because they forgot the words!

Love n hugs n slushy stuff to all
Gaby

(ha Have heard about the snow in England - wonder if it has turned to slush yet?)

Hi Jesse,
We're very bad at leaving messages but very good at reading yours - and the messages you're getting back from all over the world - and are so pleased to hear that you are really doing well. You sound like a really great patient did you know that I am a nurse? I once worked on a children's ward and it was fun. We're going to the mountains in France on Sunday where there's lots of snow although Queen's Park was so snow covered yesterday that the schools were closed - none of the teachers could get to work! Jim was in the park by 9am for snowball battles. Annie spent some time with Granny who sends lots of love - she is thinking about you all the time as we all are and she will send you a message herself when Ali helps her - Granny doesn't understand computers but she is really pleased to see your pics and read all about your fantastic progress.
Lots of love from all your friends in Winchester Avenue xxxxxxxxxx
PS do you think Kipper would like skiing? I think he might do very well - he has big paws and a low centre of gravity which would help his balance not to mention lots of hair to keep him warm. x

Hi Jesse,

Its half term now. On the last day of school
1. Tom was sick in the playground
2. Alfie said my mumm stepped in it
3. Henry got told off

I was going to send you a picture of a dog dressed as Yoda but could not get it to load on the blog - try looking up "funny picture of a dog" on Google Images.

Bye Jesse from Joey.

Hi - in case anyone is interested - here's a quick tutorial on how to put 'links' into their 'comments' for Jesse.

This might be a bit advanced for some - but here's the only way I found to post a link to a picture or a website in a 'comment' on Jesse's blog:

Just to keep you interested ... this is what anyone could do after mastering what is below:

Hey Jesse, I found a dog dressed up as Yoda. Do you like it?

So - the picture HAS TO BE ON THE WEB ALREADY, or you can make the link to a web page instead of a picture.

1) Useful things to have handy: A simple text editor like Notepad or Wordpad on the PC - or Textedit on the Mac - Have a blank 'document' open to paste things into and copy from. (remember PC - Control Key + C = copy / Control Key + V = paste - MAC is apple key + C and apple key + v)

2) Whenever I use this sign '(' you need to replace it with this one '<'

And when I use this one ')' please replace it with this one '>' - you can do this in your text document - if I do it here it will think I'm trying to use HTML language and get all wacky!

3) Navigate in your browser to the link you want to put in your comment - if it's a picture from google images - click on the "See full-size image" link and then copy the URL from the address bar .... for example a cocker spaniel dressed up as Yoda : copy all of the following:

http://dnacorp.com/dog.jpg

( I put the picture on my website so that the URL was really short and didn't stick out like the real one from google below, which looks like: this: )

http://media.twango.com/m1/large/0006/42048c6a559c4db9a1758d55fdeb4e59.jpg )

4) So Paste your image URL into your text document and save the text document somewhere you can find it again - to re-use for other comments with links.

5) Now copy the text below and paste it into your text document a couple of enters/returns below the URL you just pasted:

(a href="http://www.my_link.com")here(/a)

6) Now safely in your text editor - turn it into proper HTML code by replacing all FOUR brackets with the appropriately facing 'less than' or 'greater than' signs. THERE IS A SPACE between the first 'a' and 'href' - it needs to be there - there are no other spaces.

7) Now copy your second line (that's now got the proper HTML 'tags' in it) and paste it again below (a couple of lines down) into your text document so it looks like this but with the brackets replaced with the proper signs and YOUR link URL on top:

http://dnacorp.com/dog.jpg

(a href="http://www.my_link.com")here(/a)

(a href="http://www.my_link.com")here(/a)

7) Now copy your whole URL of your image or site again (from the first line in your text doc)

8) and then carefully select from http://www.my_link.com all the way to the m of .com - you can hit the delete key OR just paste your URL over it so your three lines of text will look like this (with the proper tags):

http://dnacorp.com/dog.jpg

(a href="http://www.my_link.com")here(/a)

(a href="http://dnacorp.com/dog.jpg")here(/a)

Sorry couldn't get the last line on ONE line but it should start looking like:

(a href="http://dnacorp.com ...

(It starts with the usual one space between the 'a' and 'href')

9) Now - replace the word "here" with whatever you want the link word or words to say ... so in this example, Hey Jesse, I found a dog dressed up as Yoda. Do you like it?

10) Once you've done it once or twice it's really easy - and you can keep copying and pasting your 2nd line - and then just changing the link and the text in it - and bob's your uncle. Also - PREVIEW your post first and it will warn you if you have any problems with your HTML tags ( they need to be in opening and closing pairs that's all)

email me if you don't understand - email me your code if you like and I'll email it back.

Love

Jesse's Uncle Darius
